Ann's Heart Summer Meal Program

Pre-Launch, Hot, and Cold Shifts

Thank you for helping us serve our community!

Each shift plays a unique role in getting meals to our students and families:

Pre-Launch Cook Shift: In these select preparatory shifts, you'll help stock the freezer ahead of the Summer Meal Program by pre-preparing meals for the children and families we'll be serving. Working alongside our kitchen team, expect hands-on tasks like chopping, prepping, and portioning ingredients, as well as cooking and packaging meals for freezing. Whether you're a confident cook or just happy to wash and chop vegetables, there's a place for everyone. Every set of hands helps us hit the ground running!

Hot Shift: This shift focuses on preparing hot dinners and side dishes (and sometimes breakfasts and lunches) for Phoenixville Area School District students and their families. Expect hands-on cooking tasks like chopping, prepping, and portioning in a fast-paced kitchen environment. A great fit for volunteers who are comfortable in a kitchen and ready to move!

Cold Shift: This shift focuses on preparing and assembling grab-and-go breakfasts, lunches, and snacks for PASD students. Tasks typically include washing and processing fresh produce and following assembly-style recipes to pack meals. Little to no cooking involved, making it a great option for volunteers of all experience levels.

Meal Packing Shifts: This shift is all about getting meals from our kitchen to the families we serve. You'll help pack, organize, label, and bag meals prepared by our kitchen team, readying orders for pickup or delivery. No kitchen experience needed, just a willingness to pitch in! Volunteers ages 12 and up are welcomed to join us for these shifts with a parent or guardian present at all times.

Every great meal ends with a clean kitchen! As part of all shifts, volunteers will help with wrap-up activities including light clean-up, dishes, trash and recycling, and washing and sanitizing surfaces.
